RE: Alpine premium subwoofer upgrade
I upgraded fromJags basic sound to Premium https://www.jaguarforums.com/m_42905/tm.htm
The subs are only 6.5".
A few people on the .co.uk forum who have done the upgrade usedAlpineSPE-17CS - 6-1/2" Component 2-Way Speakers for the rear shelf and doors and were pleased with the results.

RE: Alpine premium subwoofer upgrade
the early version premium sound (2002) has only one 6" woofer and a 6" passive radiator .. It totally is sucky.... I added a proper amp to power the existing sub,, and it is much better. I think changing the woofer would be another step better again.
Getting an aftermarket amp to work is tricky. You need some electronic knowledge. The factory system does not have a typical Turn-on wire for the amp, and you need to wire up a few things to make the amp work.

RE: Alpine premium subwoofer upgrade
the stock sounds good for the first few months. I remember seeing people on hear talk about doing different upgrades to their systems and I thought "why it sounds fine" now, after about 6 months I found myself thinking "I wonder what type of speakers I should put in here?" LOL Funny how after a while everyone wants to upgrade the system. I have the regular system with the tweeters in the front doors.... Not sure what i will change but, i will cahnge something to make it sound better. any suggestions???

They wired directly to the battery Aq. The hiss is just the hum of the amp under voltage, you know what I mean...no alternator whine or anything, that was filtered out in the power wire - hiss with our without any signal being fed into it. When I turned off the radio...there it was. just sorta an annoying pet peeve is all. Off means off where I come from. lol

Hmmm...I actually am not sure what you speak of (I think your thinking I'm speaking of the actual power wire for the amp?) I think were talking of 2 different things??? I was talking about the remote wire (wire they wired to the antenna.)
Where was the hiss coming from originally?

The premium sound is great.
The premium alpine subwoofers are struggling. I am used to a 2,000 watt alpine type R from my last car, butI am not trying to throw a woofer, box, and amp in my trunk its too tacky. I want to increase the base from the stock subwoofer locations.
Tweeter is a sound store, there experts on installing custom soundsystems for mobile audio. but expensive$$$$$$. They will hopefully give me some ideas.

Well i don't have the alpine system with sub, so I'd take the subs apart and see what is going on. I can't remember whether the sub is dual voice coil or single? If I were you I'd look into kicker as they have some midbass 6.5 speakers that I've heard are really good. Me personally I'd figure out some way to mount an 8 on that box and call it a day! Or even go nab one from a junk yard that has a ford escape/explorer/mustang or what not and somehow mount an 8 to the stock box, I'm sure it can be done with a little ingenuity!

Look into a re audio RE 8" sub! You can get them cheap! I'm going to Michigan on the 11th of June if you want one let me know before than and I'll see if the supplier I get stuff from has any. Last I checked they were sold out and didn't know if they were going to get some more. Get 2 of em on ebay shipped for 130 so it's a pretty good deal. Put a jl w0 in my bros explorer sport trac in the stock sub box and it's alright but not worth the 100+bucks they get for em!
