Best Place for Parts?
I recently purchased an '05 X-Type and realize now how hard it is to find what I need. Any suggestions on what sites I can try? To be specific I am looking for a transfer case. Seems hard to find lol. I found a few on eBay but was looking for more options? It would come in handy for future reference when I need something. Thanks!

Do a search on the forum for DrDome. He parts out x-types and can fix you up. One of the forum sponsors Jagbits sells used parts and new parts. Then there are also local wrecking yards.

Check out Rockauto.com, Amazon.com and Ebay.com
Also if you post the parts you are looking for on here someone will point you in the right direction. |
I've used Rock Auto plenty, and they're one of my favorites. They don't offer the transfer case though. I think for this piece you're going to have to find a dismantler - one of the sponsors for this forum is britishrecyclers.com. You might check there.

Confused,
What is wrong the the Transfer Case that makes you think it needs replaced? You may just need to change the bearings and oil seal if its just noisy. check out this post https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ng-p-ns-60135/ Let us know if you plan on removing the Bearings I do have a shortcut that will save you some time. Post 39 of the thread also for service in the future While you have it Apart/out https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-point-105687/ |

Are you sure you don't have a transmission problem rather than transfer case? How many miles on your car? Jaguar says transmission, transfer case and differential fluids are "Lifetime Fill." I bought my '04 two months ago with 105k miles; servicing all three has given me very noticeable improvement of all the work I've done on it so far.

Almost 100% it isn't the transmission. I would assume if it was the transmission you would hear the grinding when you put it in gear, and it wouldn't roll in park. Then again, I know nothing about Jags lol

Sorry to be a pest, but above post doesn't agree with your #7 post. Which is correct? I'm not sure the transfer case is your problem.

Grinding noise when putting shift lever in park is from the transmission, not the transfer case.
When You Put the Car in Park - How Automatic Transmissions Work | HowStuffWorks It may be that your transmission is toasted, but I'd try doing a fluid service first before making a decision. It's not that hard, but I found removing the battery box gave me the best access to the small fill plug at top of transmission. It'll cost you 4 quarts of of ATF, and you'll most likely be really shocked at how horrible the drained fluid looks. If you service the fluid and the transmission still isn't working properly then you're prolly at decision of whether to replace the transmission or junk the car. Rock Auto offers the transmission, but it's not cheap. If you replace the tranny then transfer case has to come out too so you can deal with that separately. |
You can see some pictures from my fluid change in post #13 here:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-check-162694/ ATF fluid change is also addressed in the "How To" section of the forum. Good luck. |
