!!!Brake Dust!!!
Im sure this has been posted before but Im just makin it more noticable. I have to clean my wheels every other day just to keep them from turnin black from brake dust and grime. Im sure i have standard brake pads, and I hear that different brake pads could help produce less brake dust. If true I would love to change my brake pads...
The question is...If I change just my brake pads do I have to worry about the brake lines and bleedin my brakes and stuff?? A friend told me about some brake dust shields but I like to see my brakes...
Any Suggestions!!

Hardly any on mine with the EBC Redstuff pads and thelittle their is iseasy to wipe off.Only reason wheels get dirty now is from road grime.
You dont need to bleed your brakes.
Set of these pads probably cost less than the dust shields.
PS Dont the dust shields affect cooling by shielding the discs from cool air getting drawn over them?

RE: !!!Brake Dust!!!
I can't vouch for the easiness of pad changing on these jags vs. american cars but I'd say they have to be the same. You take the rim off (I'm assuming you've never changed brake pads before...) Using a c clamp (generally have to be bigger I think like 9 or 10 inch c-clamp) the c-clamp puts the pistons back into the caliper so you can take the whole kit and kaboodle off. Usually there are 2 bolts that hold the caliper on and you loosen those you pull off the caliper and make sure you either set something underneath so that it doesn't yank on the hydraulic brake line. As long as the rotors are still good (not pitted, lined or rusted and falling apart) you pop the new pads on and put everything back together the way you took it off. You have to depress the pistons in the caliper though to get the caliper back on the car. If this is confusing or seems hard it really is the easiest thing to do until you have to take the rotors off and replace or have them turned. At least here in Michigan they get glued on with rust and road salt! To get my bosses rotors off his not even year old Dodge ram I had to get a torch and sledge to get the freaking things off!!! Man I love Michigan!!!

the fronts are super easy to do.. once the wheel is off you just undo one of the two caliper bolts and you can swing it out of the way andchange the pads..
the rears you need to unhook the parking brake cable then do the same, rear pistons dont push back they screw in with a special tool - talkes just a few minutes more than the front if all goes well.
I cleaned like crazy, painted, lubed etc.. and took longer but reall not a long or hard job.

Hey Andersen,
re brake dust problems. As per Buck n Racer, you should consider changing over to Redstuff ceramic pads. A lot less brake dust to worry about and seriously improved braking distances. Obviously only makes sense I guess if you are close to changing your pads. If not at the moment then when the time comes, look into it. Check out the EBC website for more info.
Other than that mate, like the rest of us you just have to keep washing it.
Cheers

im considering brake dust shields, is it easy to install or would i rather get ceramic pads to avoid dusts? which would be more practical and of course lower cost?

I went against everyone on the forums and got me a pair of Akebono ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic Rear Pad, for $43.79.
I just got them installed and I like them, feels the same as factory.
Here is the Part # ACT1071 off of http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php

Glad I got EBC all round on my X type, far better than factory, better bite, no dust, no fade on road or track, great from cold.
Have them on the rear of my XJ and when the factory fronts need replacing they wont be factory but will defnately be EBC.
