Exclamation Car died...assistance

I tried a few of the things advised and not able to solve issue. I am hoping someone is not too far from me to assist in getting my x-type back on the road. The backup lights do not work and it appears the alternator has gone bad, car will take a jump but then everything dies and it cuts off. I was told there may also be a loose wiring, but unable to find the wire. Is there anyone close that may assist me.

I have a 03 x-type manual 2.5 6cyl.

help please!!

burton, what part of DC are you in? I am south of you in California, MD. I can't make it up there this weekend, but next weekend I can make it up that way.

I know this is going to sound goofey, but I want you to try something for me. I want you to get the heaviest set of jumper cables that you can find. Now, using just the one cable, I want you to connect it from the engine block itself (something that is a large metal piece) and to the negative battery post (make sure it is the negative post otherwise you are going to get lots of sparks and can possibly damage the electronics of the car). Now, attempt to start the car. Does the car seem to run better? If so, you have a bad negative battery cable leading to your issues. Probably best if you are replacing the negative cable, might as well replace the positive cable as that is probably not too far behind.

In all honestly I agree with Thermo, it does sound like an issue with the cables. Just go to autozone, checker, some place like that and they can sell you the wire and connectors. I would recommend solder on connectors, but that's just me.

Just an FYI as far as how the Charging system works..

For 10 minutes right after you first start the car..the Alternator will regulate it's output at or about 14.3VDC..this is to quickly recharge the battery from just cranking the engine..Then after about 10 minutes the Alternator will drop off to about 13.2VDC..At the Battery Terminals if all is okay...But these numbers will be less than I stated if the cables are bad..and the Monitoring threshold is right at 12VDC and anything less will set off the Battery light and cause crazy stuff to go on..
