can anybody tell me how much it would cost to make the phone option work in my 03 x-type? I have no idea what is there for a phone other than a pair of buttons with a phone on them. When i push the phone button it says no phone so i assumed I dont have that option? What do I need to make it work?

I've had an xtype without the phone option, and now have one with the phone. the easiest visual way to tell is that the cars with the phone option have a small mic installed on the roof, on the driver's side. The "no phone" message will show on cars with the phone option too if the phone has not been paired yet, so that is not a reliable way of knowing whether you have the option.

I have a 2004 x-type and I don't think it has the phone option. I do have the microphone on the driver's side of the rear view mirror, but I think that is there because the car was pre-wired for Jaguar Voice, phone, and cd changer. I have the sat nav and when I press phone button by the touch screen, it says no phone fitted. I can't tell for sure because I don't have the manuals yet. The dealer has them ordered. I would love to have the bluetooth option, but I am not sure it would be feasible because of the equipment needed.

Can you give me the part number I need and a list of what to buy to get mine working? I know I am asking for a lot but it would be a great help. Did you install it yourself if so how har was it to do. And my last questions is would I be better off to get the radio that has this option? I have the unit that plays mini and regular disk and the sound is really not that good. I have seen where others have added subs and so on but I really hate to do tht and would rather have the oem equipment but I am not sure what I need to buy and hat is involved in the install and set up. Thanks all of you for all the help. This is a great sight with some very knowledgable people that have already saved me a ton of money. Thaks again

Still, if nothing happens after a few tries I would guess that you dont have the phone option installed.

Shaynes,
Are you in the U.S.?
I put in Motorola IHF1000. You'll need a harness from: info@ nicestuffonline.com
The harness numbers for my X 04, are: 68148 + 68846
Check with them to make SURE the harness will fit your car. Tell them them the exact model of your car.
The install took about 30 minutes. If you'll follow the forum's quick link on removing the radio, it will save you a lot of time.

If you decide to actually do this, let me know, and I'll walk you through it.

My 03 cam with the dealer installed phone and voice...it worked well UNTIL the US went to digital (or analog) THe phone system is now obsolete. For the sum of $1500, I can get the correct phone and stuff like that. It worked from my Nav. For the sum of $75, I can (and did) get a bluetooth for my visor. Not as much fun, but a hell of a lot less expensive.
