Default Check engine Codes & What i think i need to do to fix

Hi Guys,

First off I want to thank everybody on this forum for saving me $$! I'm not a mechanic (I work in IT- System Administration) & because of all of you I now have a new hobby.. Fixing my cat.. haha. Anyhow. I'm experiencing a check engine light with the codes below. I looked up the JTIS for the fix. Just hoping you guys can give my analysis a second look before i change something or make a big mistake.

Just a quick note: P1316, I noticed it didn't have an associated cylinder number. My Code scanner did show one code which showed up as NA.. possible ECU issue? Also maybe I should check my battery? the car has been running fine for the past couple months with the light on.

Codes:

P0037 - Right Hand Bank Catalyst monitor sensor
FIX:
Replace Downstream o2 Sensor
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...en_sensor.html

P1316 - Misfire exceeds emissions
Fix:

Purchase new coils and install them.
Delphi GN10327 Ignition Coil : Amazon.com : Automotive Delphi GN10327 Ignition Coil : Amazon.com : Automotive

P1646 Right hand bank heated oxygen sensor
Fix:
Oxygen sensor (Upstream)
I'm going to purchase the following:
YA8875 Snapon - 29.30

Amazon.com: Bosch 15627 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment: Automotive Amazon.com: Bosch 15627 Oxygen Sensor, OE Type Fitment: Automotive

Just read your reply on my thread about Benchmark Cat Converters. Thanks for the info.
I read your post and your codes and issues sound a lot like mine. When I first had my mechanic check why my Check Engine light came on there was a misfire code and the Cat Converter code. He said the Cat Converter sensor will show up when there's a misfire because the unburnt fuel will alert the Cat sensor thinking the Cat Converter isn't working properly. I just bought the car so he cleared all the codes and started fresh. I drove it for a couple hundred miles and within 50 miles the check eng light came back on. I took it back so he could really check it out and find out what the problem really is. That's when I found out it's the Catalytic Converters. The misfire code never came back so I'm hoping I won't have to buy ign coils right now. I hope you don't have the same problem as I do. I just about freaked when I called Jaguar and asked how much for their Cat Converters, $3,200.00.

While you might have to purchase all those parts and fit them, you'd be unlucky for them all to have failed together! In particular, if a coil was being troublesome, you'd expect it to show up its own specific code. All coils failing together would be very unusual. Same for both O2 sensors on one bank.

I suggest that your first check should be for leaks in the engine air inlet trunking, eg splits in one of the bellows sections. Also check the 1 inch diameter breather pipe that runs front to back, from the front cambox cover to the inlet manifold. You might have to remove the plastic engine cover to get at all of it. Early versions of that pipe commonly split on the underside and cause misfire problems. Tape it up as a temporary repair. New version is stronger.

How does the car behave when driving? Is the misfire noticeable? At any speed or just certain revs?

Jaguila, Thanks for the response. I guess we are in the same boat huh? Did you end up buying those new Cat's? my delima is i have to get my car smog-ed, and California's requirements are so strict that i failed & have untill January 26 to get it fixed. this sucks!

Astromorg, I'm going to check the air inlet trunking. I do hear my car starting a bit ruff then returns to normal after a few seconds, hopefully its just a vacuum leak. The car is driving fine, i don't notice any misfiring and the power stays steady. I think the misfire only occurs when i first start the car from a cold start.

Yeah, I bought those catalyst Converters. I found out that the magnaflow cats, which are universal, that are suppose to fit the Jag X-Types don't really fit, or the labor involved was so intense I couldn't find anyone to install them so I had to get Direct Fit Cats. I got the Benchmark Jag91953F and the Jag91953R at $430 each on Amazon. They're 50 State legal and CARB certified. Now to get them installed. So far I've been quoted in the $750 - $950 range. They're in very hard areas to reach and require a lot of hours to get to. California smog requirements are a scam if you ask me. I appreciate clean air but somebody's making money off all this and it isn't me! Anyway, I hope everything works out for you and it isn't the cats because when all is said and done it's around $2,000 to fix, which isn't bad when you compare it to dealer quotes. ($3,200 at the dealer + install).
