circulation vents
2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5
My Battery was replaced Yesterday. Afterwards, I drove off and turned on my A/C. No matter what position I tried to vent the cool air, the cold air came out at the defrost vents (at the windshield). I depressed each position button on the control panel, but the air continued to blow from the defrost vents. Anyone know what the problem is? This happened last year when I replaced the battery. I turned the A/C off and the heater on high, then depressed the buttons on the control panel. Then, the air changed to the appropriate vent. This time, it won't do it. It just blows from the defrost vents at the Windshild. Please help- it's hot in Texas

I am having the exact same problem, also in Texas!
This afternoon, I put a new battery in my 2003 X-type after the auto shop (not Jag dealer) determined that the old battery was defective. The good new is that the battery was under warranty and my replacement cost was $0. Incidentally, none of my radio settings or navigation presets were lost when the battery was changed. I only had to program the clock and reset my windows.
The bad news is that after installing the new battery, the air conditioner blows only through the windscreen defrost vents, even when the Nav display indicates that the other vents are selected (e.g. dashboard vents, foot well vents, defroster/foot vents). To clarify, the climate controls all appear to work: I can hear the blower speed increasing and decreasing when I adjust the fan control. The temperature control seems to work as well, and the air is blowing cold as it should.
But no matter what vent I select from the Nav touchscreen, the air blows only through the defroster vents on top of the dashboard.
Is there a reset code or button sequence that fixes this?

Hi, This is an old thread but I just had this problem in the morning. What I did was disconnect the ac controller plug from the console. Placed the ignition in ON, then turned it off. Reassembled everything and it was blowing the air correctly through the front ac vents. I have not tried to put it to blow air throught the defrost vents, but I prefer not to deal with that again. Hope this works for you guys as well.

Many thanks for your advice.
There seemed to be poor flow to my feet but it seems to be much better now.
I was about to investigate the stepper motor but now I can have a beer instead.
Perhaps these instructions should also be part of a sticky
