Default Couple of electrical issues

Hey guys. 2 electrical problems to address if you can help.
1- air recirculation button not working. Hoping its a fuse problem, anyone know which fuse it is.

2- all lights work fine apart from the drivers side main beam. Side lights fine. Low beam fine. High beam no, keeps blowing fuses instantly. Tried upping the fuse and it blew that aswel.
Any help guys will be much appreciated.

Car in question is an x-type classic D. 2ltr uk 2005 plate

ScottyP, as for the headlight, if it is blowing the fuse, then odds are you have a wiring issue. I would first start with unplugging the affected headlight and see if it blows another fuse. If yes, then your problem is in the wiring harness inside the engine bay. If this is the case, I would first start with swapping out the relay for the highbeams. If that doesn't fix it, then you are down to hand over handing the wiring to find where the wiring harness is damaged. Fortunately, it will be a short run as you are going from the fuse box to the headlights.

If the problem is isolated to the headlight housing, I would first start with a good inspection of the plug assembly. You may find that pins 8 and 10 will be darkened due to being overheated and that may be the source of your problem. From there, you will need to unplug the main beam bulb and then use a multimeter to see if you still have a short between the main beam wire and ground (pin 6 is the power wire, pins 8 and 10 are ground wires and you will most likely have a problem between 6 and 8).

As for the recirc button, this is powered directly from the control panel. So, as long as the other functions are working, then odds are you are looking at a button that has failed. Unfortunately, this is a new control panel. The only caviate to this is if you have some electronics knowledge. Then you can open up the panel and see if you can clean the contacts and/or fix the broken solder joint.

If you need more info, let me know.
