A couple of questions?
So, its too my understanding that, stabilty control, traction control is NOT standard. Mines an 02, 2.5l, does anybody know how you can tell, i read somewhere on here that the earlier models didn't have buttons for them, and were later added on.
Another question is about the transmission, around 30-40km/h, theres a harsh kick down, and i had my oil changed 2 months ago. But it had done this from before, is this normal just curious.

I experience the kick down from time to time, or almost what seems like a hang in the transition when shifting down from 3 to 2, i think. This is what S-Type owners have described as Variation 2 of "The Lurch" (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=24552). Apparently it is normal in their car's adaptive transmission of the ZF automatic gearbox, not sure if we have the same (or another that may use that adaptive transmission control). I experience the exact same thing as what they describe though. Some have said to get the transmission reprogrammed and others say driving in sport mode helps. I haven't seen such commonly reported experiences about it on this board, which made me worry if my tranny was just going bad. But for now, so far so good and the kicks are far and few between.

Disco, probably about the easiest way to tell if you have traction control is to get all 4 wheels on ice (big sheet of it) and then turn the wheel. Now, give the car a little burp of gas to break 1 or more wheels loose (just not all 4) and then keep the gas pedal slightly depressed. If you feel the motor "loose power" then you have traction control. What is happening is the computer is limiting the output of the motor to help slow the one (or more) tire(s) to match the rest.
Granted, if you don't have traction control, you can accomplish the same sort of thing by gently riding the brakes when in a slippery condition. As a wheel looses traction, it will accelerate and by applying the brakes a little bit, as the wheel spins faster it will apply more drag to that wheel, slowing it down.

I undertand how it works and all, but i just assumed that the car would have traction control, i know the 02 impala's, didn't show the light during winter time, but only on dirt when you spun th tire. The new one is the all the time now. I guess if i don't drive like a maniac, then i should be fine? Was thier a model year that all thse became standard, or was it optonal all the way across the board.
