Default Doesn´t start

Hey guys

my name is Björn and I am in Iceland. I work at a engine repair shop here and we are having some difficulties starting a Jag that we just replaced head gaskets. And the problem is that we don´t have any dealer or Jag mechanic here in Iceland

we have tried almost everything I believe. it seems that the anti theft system is off because we both get fuel and spark. But, the spark is very very little so I´m thinking do you have any idea what could be teasing us???

we just replaced the headgaskets grinded the heads worked on the valves and put all together again.

this is the vin number SAJEA51D53XD23820

we have had some trouble codes
like P1000
P1260
P1582
P2503

so any ideas my friends??'

kind regards
Björn Ingi

Welcome to the forum Björn,

For the DTC's, :

P1000 : OnBoard Tests not completed since last memory clear
P1260 : Security input malfunction
P1582 : Throttle Monitor data available or Inertia Switch tripped
P2503 : Charging System

From these codes, I'd check the Inertia Switch first.

Graham

the P1582 points at the inertia switch, it's located up and behind the pedals, press it down, if it clicks then you might be golden.

Put a small amount of oil down the bores to help build up compression.

BJorn, i would also check the ground wire for the coils. They all go to a common point on the block. IF you have some corrosion there, that can lead to a weak spark, leading to the no start condition. But, like others say, the inertia switch can be the source of your problems too.

do you recall where on the block the are connecte???

I´ve been checking the connectors on the engine and can´t find anything that calls out a fault Except I saw some green in the plug for the throttle body.

I´m going to check the inertia switch. is there any easy way to check it out??

sincerely yours
björn

Corrosion at the TB connector may be the problem - it normally produces a different DTC but certainly unplug the connector and use some electrical contact cleaner on it.

cleaned the throttle body, got good spark, got fuel, checked the inertia switch and it is on. but still the engine wont start. doesn´t even take a little puff.
not even on start spray or fuel. this is getting a little bit strange I think

we checked the timing and we think it is ok. but I´m thinking that it is probably the only thing that is left. we just replaced the headgaskets and got informations on how to time in the engine. had two mechanics to look over it when they were putting it together.

but still, I can´t think of anything else at the moment so my next step is to take the engine out and check the timing.

is there maybe another way to check it without removing the engine ???

regards
björn

Bjorn,
I'm not an expert on the X type at all but I'm sure you don't need to take the engine out.
Here's a timing 'how-to' I'm sure an X type guy will explain a simpler method.

Bjorn, if you have good fuel pressure on the rail and you are getting good spark, then as much as I hate to say it, it is looking like a timing issue. I would be looking at timing all the more if you are using starter fluid and the motor is not firing. I had a similar issue when I reassembled the motor on my truck. I was off by just a little bit on the timing and it would not do anything.

Hi guys

well still having some problems with this none starting dsaæioðpivjqelærkjigaslæjsdf

timing is right, got spark, got fuel and also got a lot of grey hair since I started

know I´m wondering if some one has been playing tricks on me and switched the camshafts. do you know if it is possible to misplace the intake camshafts.
put the one for the right cylinders on the left head and so on.

I see they have different numbers on them
the left one has RF1X4E6A266CA
and the rignt one has RF1X4EBA287CA

I just have to ask all kinds of stupid questions to figure this out.

sincerely yours
Björn

Bjorn, I am sure it is possible. I have not torn the motor apart on this car, so, can not say definitely though. Granted, I would think that the gears on the end of the cam shafts would be off slightly, resulting in the gears for the timing chains not being in line with the drive gears from the motor.

then it´s not a good guess, because the engine has the timing on the spot exactly. well back to thinking

You said that you sprayed starter fluid but that it had no effect. But are you sure the fluid made its way into the cylinders? Could the butterfly valve in the throttle body be stuck closed and no air is reaching the cylinders?
