Default door not opening from inside

Hi all. 2005 X-type sport. I've tried searching for answers for this but couldn't find an exact instance. The passenger side door won't open from the inside but works fine from outside. I don't know when this occurred or how. I can say that the lock on it is extremely loose and unresponsive to my key fob or drivers side lock. It's always been tough for passengers to get out, always directing them to just use a good bit of force . Will I have to replace this or is there something else I can try? Thanks a bunch!

The door lock operates by a cable from the inside door handle, a rod from the outside door handle and locks by a solenoid plunger. You need to first figure out why the locking mechanism is loose and correct that before you can start troubleshooting the locking/unlocking.

Another thanks from me.
By coincidence the same fault has just occurred on my X type today.
Mine is much more urgent as it is just the drivers door so a bit more safety critical.
Until I get it fixed, roll to a stop, brakes on etc. leave engine running, open window, reach out and undo door, leave door open, close window and then switch off etc.

I like the lead split shot fishing sinker method.

Overnight the door now seems to be working as normal.
I was sober yesterday so any serious suggestions as to what is causing the problem?

Henry K what you forget is that you have a British made vehicle!

Rule of thumb is, " If it wont work today wait till tomorrow and it might"
Unfortunately the opposite also applies.
