Hi I bought this car a week ago, cheap but with a heap of electrical challenges. I’ll mention them all here, because I’m not sure which could be depending on the other
Initially:
1. Gearbox Fault, Cruise not Available
2. No HID lights
3. No Nav function
4. No CDC function
Added later:
5. No AC
1&2 I got this solved with the help of this forum, fixing fuse F67 and sorting out why it burned out again and again. It drives fine now. Great relief 😊
3 Well then I suddenly had NAV. What happens is that half the time the system tells me the DVD is not a NAV DVD, but it is
4 Screen says CDC ERROR. In the trunk there’s light in the green eject button, but when pushed, the cannister does not come out
5 This is the sad one, because AC worked perfectly when I got the car, but after my days of analyzing and testing to sort out 1&2, first time I started it and happy that Gearbox Fault message had disappeared, there was no AC, only “Communication Fault Please Consult Your Dealer”. I’ve read about battery needs to be fully charged, so charged it all night, no change in AC. My iCarSoft could read codes on Climate system when I just got the car, but now, it says there's no link
Any ideas on 3 or 4 or 5?

For your AC, the climate control module has 3 different supply line inputs, so start by checking the following 10 amp fuses in the passenger junction fuse box: F39, F45 and F49.

Yes Mark, you were right. Fuses on my 2003 are numbered a little differently, and I thought I had been through them, but I now checked F23 F36 F75 F99. F75 (7.5A on mine, 10A on a 2001-2002) was blown. Put another 7.5A in, it blew immediately. Then got brave and put 20A in, and AC is back :-). Right now I have 10A in and it works so far.
So now all the major issues are solved. Thanks to all, a fantastic car I think, a bit complex, primarily for me, because the wiring diagram and resources, had to learn that way of showing a wiring diagram first

So now 1, 2, 3 and 5 are fixed with help from you guys.
On 4., the CDC "Screen says CDC ERROR. In the trunk there’s light in the green eject button, but when pushed, the cannister does not come out", any ideas, should I just buy a new one you think, if they're available? A common issue that they fail?
Haven't got that CD changer in my X-Type (single CD only in mine, and haven't had to go there on my XJ8 yet.
I would put money on the CD loading mechanism being probably jammed.
Could be a stretched/aged or worn belt, or something just got out of whack in the cartridge disc selection system.
Either way, I think you will be pulling it out and taking the covers off to take a look.
If you can manually wind the mech to get the disc to retreat back into the cartridge and then continue to wind out the multi-disc cartridge.
If you can then just power it up and get the mech to reset itself back to its home position. Once it is powered up if it will accept the cartridge and release it again, then go the next step to see if it will talk on the system properly and allow discs to be seen and selected.
On the CD changer, had to give up. Got it out, took it apart, could mechanically get the cannister out, no CDs in. Put a real CD in, assembled, no change. Working on I think I ruined some of the multiwire band thing. So have bought another one on ebay, so we'll see...
When you had the CD-player taken apart, did you clean the lens?
A CD player uses a laser to read the disc. The lens focuses the laser onto the disc. If there is dirt or dust on the lens, the CD player would not work. Use a cotton tip (the one usually used to clean ears) with isopropanol alcohol to clean the lens.
