Just had mine reflashed (or upgraded_ on Friday - can't say I notice any difference. I did enjoy the fact that it didn't cost me anything - that was fantastic.

Is the reflash for all x-types or just specific years?

can't you clear the TCM by removing the TCM fuse? Other than that - if I just got an '03 X-Type 2.5 this year - can I assume the reflash was already done?
