I have a 2004 X type 2.5 recently while driving down the freeway it just shut down. After waiting a few minutes I was able to start it back up but a lot of fault lights stayed on. This has happened several times and I have taken it to the Jag shop and they can't seem to find the problem. Any Ideas?

The car actually belongs to a friend, she has a great car but not very computer literate. This was her discription of the problem

The computer shows the following message: ‘Engine systems fault’ which immediately changes to the other message: ‘gear box fault’ and the car (or engine) starts to slow down with the chukh-chukh noise J stopping eventually. When I switch the engine off and start it again, it works alright until the problem appears again….

 

Well your going into limp home mode. were you using the cruise control when this happened?.

 

No Cruise control being used but another maybe helful hint is the outside ambient air temp seems to change drasticly when the fault occurs. This can't be the only one doing this is it?
