Default Exhaust Tip Sizes (2.5 vs 3.0)

Was at the mall today. Saw a baby-blue 3.0, parked. I didn't have my 2.5 with me for comparison, but it looked as if the 3.0 had larger exhaust tips than my 2.5. Not huge, and they didn't look aftermarket, just a little larger diameter oval.

Do 2.5s and 3.0s have different tips? Or did different years come with different tips? Or do you think these were aftermarket?

Thanks.

The 2.5 and the 3.0 have always had the same part number for the rear silencers, though the part number itself has changed several times over the years. The catalogue however lists them just as "2.5/3.0 rear silencer".

I'm speaking specifically about the outlet-tips that we see from the rear of the car. Are those tips removable (without cutting)? Or are they one solid piece with the muffler?

Thanks.

The tips aren't purchasable separately from the silencers and thus should be the same in the 2.5 and the 3.0. I don't think it's possible to remove them without cutting them off, see the pic by dennis here.

Adamesh and even Jaguar offer some slip on chrome exhaust trims.

They cover the existing chrome tail pipe and are fastened with 2 allen screws underneath.

Adamesh tips:

Here's an X-Type with the genuine Jaguar chrome tips installed:

If one has added a system like I did...BORLA..the tips are different. Borla is labeled on the top of the tips. Could be a complete new system... I have a 3.0 sport...just a thought

David, do you happen to know the part numbers for these two tips? I like the look of the Jag tip.

Looks like the Jag tip slides INSIDE of the opening on the stock tip, and then clamps down on the pipe? It that accurate?

One concern would be, it looks as if the tips are open-ended towards the muffler. Wouldn't that allow a TON of water, dirt and debris to be collected inside the tip?

Thanks.

When I removed the factory mufflers to install Mina's the factory tips are welded to the mufflers.

Hi rclangelan,

our cars have the same - rare - outside color! CGG eh ... ?

I bought that X-Type just 2 weeks ago (after I owned a very nice 1999 XJ8 Sport for a while).
And I installed the Jaguar OEM Tips just a few days ago. Part No. is - C2S38972.
And yes, they slide completely over the stock tips. Inside and outside.
Unfortunately they are shorter than the original mounted chrome pipes.
But that is barely visible and only from the side of the car if you are just a few Inches above the ground.
They are 100% stainless (I checked with a magnet), so no need to worry about a bit of dirt building up inside.

Here's where I bought them:

Cheers,

David

P.S.
See page 3-4 in the 2006 Accessories brochure for the tips ...

Love the look! Just bought a set myself.

What are the stock tips made of? If the stainless aftermarket tips collect grime, will the stockers rust inside of them?

Also, is there any adjust-ability on the position of the the pipes? I feel that my passenger side tip sits slightly off center. Perhaps the previous owner backed into something. Must have been something soft, because there are no signs of impact (scratches, dents, etc...)

Thanks!

If you crawl underneath the rear end of your red cat, you can see the exhaust brackets attached to the body.
They can easily be bent to adjust the way the rear muffler sits underneath the car.

I've had them on my X-type for three years now. They aren't "aftermarket". They are Jag accessory parts. See them on '05 Sports, etc. with the body kits. No rusting of the original welded on tips with these overlays. Just look way better...

I wonder what would be the best way to vertically adjust the pipes? My mufflers were installed with larger tips in mind, so now with small stock-size-ish tips they look a bit wrong with a big gap between the tip and the rear valance.

Custom rubber hangers? Putting a hose clamp around the stock rubber hanger and adjusting the height by tightening it?

You can bend the stainless exhaust hanger that is mounted to the body underneath the rear end of your car.
That way you can adjust the gap between the exhaust tips and the bumper.
If that shouldn't be enough you can squeeze the rubber hangers by putting a HD tie wrap around them and tighten till you are satisfied.

Cheers,

David

I tried a hose clamp and it made a very tiny difference, so I took it off because it sort of took away the whole point of the rubber hanger as the exhaust felt quite solid when it was tightened. I think I'll look into bending the hangers. Not something I'll be able to do myself though.
