Took my wife's Merc ML350 to the dealership yesterday for an on/off check engine problem. I got a call late yesterday evening from the service rep telling me that the balance shaft is bad and needs to be replaced, which is triggering the check engine light. He said I was lucky to still be under the extended warranty because without it, it would have cost me $7500 to repair. If I was ever hesitant to get an extended warranty on a pre-owned car before, I will never be again. I only paid $1800 for it directly from Merc, not bad for a $35K purchase, and it's definitely worth it.

So moral of the story, better be safe than sorry.

Ps. My wife took my X-Type to use and I'm driving around in a loaned 2012 C250 Sport this entire week. It's a win-win situation. I do miss my Jag a lot and took it out yesterday after work for a long drive.

Yes, and if anyone is still under Jaguar Select care )which must be ending pretty soon... =:-0) I recommend the Ford Permium Care plan. I got one late last summer when my Jaguar warranty was ending. It provides 100% bumper to bumper coverage and I paid ~$2300.

Ford offers it because our cars were Ford when new and Jaguar Select is still considered to be a Ford program. However, you must investigate this before your Select coverage ends. I learned that the price difference between a car still covered under a Ford warranty and one that wasn't was HUGH.
