Default Fault Codes

I have 2.0 auto 2004, and have been getting various fault codes coming up. Crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor faults. After checking all the sensors and checking the wiring i was still getting the fault codes coming up. So i was informed that i might have cable breakages inside the main ECU plug and to check that. So when i removed the plug to check for breakages i found that there was some condensation inside the plug so i dried out the plug and socket with a hair dryer and now the car has run for several weeks now without a fault code. But i think the problem there was the position of the ECU which makes it susceptible to get water inside the plug. Hope this helps anyone with problems of what they think faulty sensors.

A bigger question you should ask is where is the water coming in from, supposed to be water tight plug.

Martyn, I would recommend putting a little bit of di-electric grease around where the rubber seal is. That will help it seal the joint better and prevent water from getting inside.

What you were experiencing was the water was shorting out the pins, causing the computer to not see the signal (essentially running from the sensor, up the wire to the plug, through the water, and then back to the sensor). Also, make sure that the area where the seal is inside of the plug is clean. May want to take some water, flush out the seal area and then using the hair dryer again, dry it out and then connect it all back up. From there, keep an eye on the car and see how things go.
