The garage would not fit them with only one nut so you may want to check with your garage before getting them.

lc3566, most of the changes were in other parts of the car. I say to get those arms and put them on the car. I do not recall any changes that were made to the suspension aspect of the X-Type over its life (only the rear calipers had a change in 2005).

My Jag was built in June 2001, VIN number indicates that it was #8856 off the assembly line.
I have installed the adjustable links that Thermo suggested (early 2014), everything works as hoped, tyres aren't wearing either. I say go for it.

Thanks for the help, the ones I found & posted the link to seem to have 3 nuts instead of 2, I take it that should be a good thing? More adjustability perhaps?

Wanted to say I found these arms for $77.00 with free shipping on Ebay and they worked flawlessly to correct a negative camber (wheels leaning in at the top and wearing the inside of the rear tires.) I had to leave the jam nut on and screw them out an additional 3/8 of an inch and the tires are straight as an arrow. Whole job took less than an hour. TIP: use a propane torch to heat the nuts that are welded to the supports and the bolts will come out effortlessly. THANKS!!!!

I'm about to have this done, arms are due in monday. Did you find that straightening the back wheels improved handling? My rear suspension has a "squishy" feel on one rear corner (despite new shocks & springs) I'm hoping it's because of extra suspension travel due to the negative camber & the new arms will fix it.
I've tried new lower arms, roll bar bushes & droplinks - nothing has fixed it yet.

A bit but I don't have any other work done. I would think you have the bases covered and more tire correctly in contact with the road has got to help

UPDATE: I've now had this mod done and wow! What a difference! Many, many thanks @Thermo and everyone else on here who has given me advice on this! My long term "squishy" suspension problem is pretty much cured! First thing was, the bushes in the old arms were absolutely shot, I could have almost pressed what was left of them out with my thumb. Secondly, the aftermarket volvo arms weigh more than twice as much as the original Jag ones. Way more solid, way better quality - If you have to replace your upper arms for any reason at all - buy these instead of Jag arms without hesitation, almost half the price too! The arms I got differ from Thermo's in that they had 2 nuts to lock the adjuster down instead of 1. This meant we only had to remove one nut to fit them, leaving the other in place so we didn't have to rely on the pinch bolt & loctite to fix the adjuster in place. I had to do some searching as these arms aren't as easy to find in the UK, you can get them here: S40/V50 04-12, C30 07-13 PFS Adjustable Upper Rear Suspension Arm-Pair

Are the nuts on yours thinner?

Does it raise the back of the car?

They were fitted by a friend of mine who's a car enthusiast & has a well equipped garage. He's a great mechanic & likes to do things that are "outside the box" so to speak.
No, the nuts were standard & no thinner as far as I could tell, but when we laid out the new arms next to the jag originals, I'd say they were closer to the length of the originals than the ones in Thermo's pics. Once we'd taken one nut off & screwed the adjuster down with the remaining one, only very small tweaks were needed to get the camber almost perfect. Which is just as well, because the pinch bolt was next to useless!
Yes, I'd say the back end was raised when finished, but the rear had been sagging badly before - probably because of the shot bushes in the old arms.
My tyres were totally screwed - now I have new Dunlop sport bluresponse all round & a fresh alignment - the difference is literally night & day.
If your mechanic won't fit yours because he doesn't think the pinch bolt/loctite thing is safe enough, I'd say try a set of the ones I got (link above) worth every penny!

The B12 Pro kit is low at the rear and grounds more than it should, so looking for ways to improve it.

Does your friend want to install another set?

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away for a couple of weeks.
It's fairly unlikely my friend would fit another set - he wouldn't have been happy to fit mine if he'd had to rely on the pinch bolt & loctite to hold the adjuster in place. My arms are different to Thermo's in that they have an extra locking nut. Also the threaded bar in my case required no tweaking, the arms fit perfectly as they came. A couple of turns on the wrench had the camber set perfectly - I think I got lucky!

The B12 kit must be pretty awesome, was it very expensive? I replaced my old shocks with standard B4's and that wasn't cheap - had I known I would also end up replacing the springs at the time, I might have gone for a sport option.

My Jag had also been sitting low at the rear, everything I had replaced improved things a little. (upper & lower arms, ARB bushes & droplinks, shocks & springs)
When I had my alignment done, the garage spotted that the inner bushes on the spring carrier arms were shot. I'm going to replace the arms & both sets of bushes, I expect this will cure my rear suspension problems finally!
May be worth checking the bushes on your spring carriers, changing them could well improve your ride height I would have thought.

The B12 can be seen online between 750 and 950

Will have the spring carriers checked

Was going to get the same control arms you have, if I knew where to get them fitted.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?
I'm in Lancashire, just a little north of Manchester, very good selection of small garages with reasonable rates up here. If you're going for the same set of arms that I have, I can't see that any mechanic would have a problem fitting them as they were a near perfect fit & far better quality than the Jag ones.
I've just taken my Jag to Cornwall & back, clocked up well over 1000 miles and the new arms peformed beautifully, very much looking forward to getting the new spring carriers fitted.

Hertfordshire, South East UK but usually travel to Leeds for bertieboy9 (UK Forum) to work on the car as he also breaks others and usually has parts.

Just had the adjustable arms fitted to my x type sport, got them from Partsforvolvos.com (come from S40/V50 volvos). No problem apart from the garage fitting them the wrong way round and car was like without suspension. Now corrected and goes great.Will see how the tyres wear but camber adjustment is now back to factory spec according to garage.

Chewed up a set of 4 MCT-440s (Mastercraft, great tires for our cars, by the way) in 15K miles...good tread everywhere but an eight-of-an-inch strip on the inside edge, which was worn down to the cords!


Yep, / \ on the rears. a bit over 2º. Just did fresh shocks, which helped a little bit, but adjustable looks like the way to go...


I suppose I might as well do all of the other bushings while I'm down there.
