Gear Selector
Hello everybody my name is Jeff and I'm new to the forum. I bought a 2005 Jaguar x type with a 3.0l engine in it about 2 months ago. I'm an ex mechanic so I do as much of the work to my vehicles as I can. Right now I was trying to find a battery drain and I took out the radio unit because I heard a noise coming from there when I put a test light in between the neg cable and the battery post. My problem now is that while I was in the middle of doing that I decided to check the wiring on the gear shifter, so I took out the 4 screws and lifted the top of it up and found no problems there. I put it back together and now I can't get the car to start or go into gear. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thank You

Thanks everyone. A quick update. I removed the gear shifter completely from the floor and I removed the neutral safety switch from the transmission. I got both parts from e bay for only 100.00 and the guy is throwing in all the relays for the under hood fuse box. If those don't work I will proceed from there. Before I try starting the car I'm going to be outside it then hook up the battery and then set the alarm by locking the car up. Once I do that I will get in and try to start the car. I may need a wiring diagram for my 2005 x type to get the job done, anybody know where I can view one. Thanks Again Jeff

Still not sure how to post to x type forum. I got the gear shifter and the neutral safety switch today and I installed both of them, not too much work. I closed the doors, hooked up the battery and locked the door which activated the alarm system, I waited 15 seconds- just for the heck of it and then I unlocked the door and got in, the car started right up and I was so glad. Not really sure what the problem was but maybe just the security system needed to be reset. Now I have to find the battery drain and everything will be fine. If anyone needs some pics of the gear shifter with the mounting bracket and the shifter cable, or the neutral safety switch let me know. Thank Again Jeff
