Default Got a noise from engine bay, help!

I found out my oil filter was really loose, was my oil leak, it turned with no force.
Could and air leak at the filter have killed my oil pump?
I kinda think my noise is my AC compressor that died 4-5 years ago, but have concerns.
2002 3.0 x-type. Thanks

The oil pump takes a suction from the flooded sump. A loose filter other than leaking and making a mess should not affect the oil pump.
If you think the compressor is making a noise you can remove the serpentine belt and run the engine to isolate it to the serpentine drive. You should also check the bearings for the idler pulley and the belt tensioning pulley.

I do believe with every warning light possible showing on the dash now and no fault codes in the computer that I have lost my alternator, so much fun. On the bright side I have a leak in my AC system so don't have to pay for evacuation of that, yay.

Pretty easy to check alternator function with a multimeter or one you can plug into the power port on console. With engine off check read voltage on battery terminals; then start engine and check voltage again. If voltage is noticeably greater with engine running your alternator's working.

After I got the alternator out I observed that the die cast chassis of it was cracked, and it spun rough. Was certainly my problem, car is much quieter now.

My 1st x-type alt swap, took me about 4 hours in the dark to get it done. If they had just put the top alternator bolt in from the front that would have cut out an hours works(had to remove airbox and loosen coolant line supports(and cuss) to get to it.)
