Has anyone change or take off rear differential?
Vitaliy, if you are going to mess with the rear differential and remove the gears, then you will need a lot of special tools to get the proper spacing again in the gears. If you are replacing the whole differential as a single piece, then no special tools are really needed.
Before you do the differential replacement as you would probably be the first to do it, I would check the carrier bearing for the rear driveshaft. It is located under the front seats on the outside of the car (follow the back of the front seats down and it will be there in the center of the car on the outside). If this starts to get some play, you can get a thunking sound from it as it shifts from having load on it to not having load. This can sound like it is coming from the rear of the car. You may also notice that the car will develop a slight vibration when driving at about 65 mph (110? KPH) (aka, highway speeds).
