Default Headlights won't turn off

I have a issue with my hightlights not turning off. I sometimes have to keep turning the light knob on and off for a few minutes before they with turn off. Some days I have no issues and they turn off right away. When I turn the light switch to the off position all other lights turn off issues is with the headlights only, thanks.

It sounds as though the headlamp relay is sticking in the "on" position. Many components that draw a large current arent switched on or off through the actual switch, but through a relay, which in turn is switched open or closed by the action of flicking the relevant switch, allowing the current through to the component. Dont know off hand which relay controls the headlamps but someone on here will do, or maybe try a search, as in "headlamp relay". Hope this helps.

pnclopez, what car are we talking about here? That will allow me to look at the drawings and be able to give you a few checks to make to help narrow down where the problem may lie.

On a side note, would you happen to be a personnelman? I did some time down in Norfolk. Just curious. Not sure if many others would possibly catch that.

Thermo, I have a 2005 x-type VDP 3.0L V6 Jag.

And, yes I was a personnelman. I recently retired. You are the first person to catch that, and I use this screen name on everything. Thanks for you response.

PNC, ETC (Nuclear)(retired) here. Welcome to the forums my brother in arms. I retired back in April 09. I was up at the Newport News Shipyard working for the CNSF Representatives office for the construction of the new VA Class subs. Who knows, we may have crossed paths at some time and never knew it. Amazing how the Navy is such a small world.

It is a small Navy. I retired December 2009. I retired from Navy Expeditionary Command in Little Creek.
