help with p1260 antitheft 02 xtype

hi.

my jag wont start. nothing happens when I turn the key. gives p1260 security input engine disabled code. is there any way i can reset the code without taking it to the dealer. i think what happened is the battery in the key died and when i tried to start the car with it the car didnt recognize the key and went into antitheft mode or something. i replaced the battery in the key but now it still is giving the p1260 code and wont let me start the car. its the v6 engine of that matters. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats the battery for the remote, there is no battery for the key. It has a microchip, try your other keys. If thats your only 1, your screwed, try disconnecting the battery again but only the negative cable, touch the negative to the positive still connected cable. This drains all capacitors on the car and resets the ecus. They sometimes lockup just like your pc and do stupid stuff like this. This resets the ecu just like unplugging the you pc from the wall, and no it wont damage anything we do it all the time and this is called a hard reboot. If this doesnt do it, call a tow truck and take it to the dealer

I see this solution a lot but I'd lDrike to know how your supposed to touch them together? On my 04 xtype 3.0 the cable maybe reaches half way to the other cable. Can I use something metal to complete the connection?
