Hello everyone,
We have just bought an 2005 2.0 diesel X-Type and it seems to run fine, it seems to have two problems, one is a warm/hot starting problem (the car starts pretty much on the button when cold) and the other is poor mpg. (Although the mpg is a huge improvement over our old 3.0 s type!) also the temperature gauge hardly moves off the bottom, could this have anything to do with the bad mpg if the engine thinks it isn't Fully warm?

could be your temp sensor or the actual stat, if the car thinks its cold all the time it will overfuel to compensate, resulting in poor mpg figures, both can be had quite cheap on ebay.

 

Thanks for that, we have got a new thermostat so will keep you posted on whether it solves it.....
