Default How can I tell if I have the premium sound?

So this is the deal...

My car was equipped with a 6 disc changer.. but before I got it, it was stolen.. along with the whole left side trunk carpet panel..

I dont know if it had an amp or not..
there are a couple of connecters in the trunk tho..
I have 4 speakers that I can see in the car..

How can I tell if I have the premium sound package and if I need to get an amp or not??

The speakers sound fine.. The loudest volume setting isnt THAT loud... but I'm unsure about it.. it seems normal..

A black plastic box?
I'm gonna go look at my car right now..

So if it doesnt have that.. then that means it doesnt come with an amp right?

ok so i just went and checked...

it doesnt look like I have it..

in the trunk under where the rear shelf is, there are 2 holes.. about 5 1/4 inch speaker size.. but they are covered with this foam stuff that can come out..
im guessing thats where the speakers WOULD go if I had the premium sound...

maaaaan.
I wanted to have the premium sound option.
lol

You can always add to the system rosemont. An enclosure w/ a sub, a small amp, and you can turn down the bass in the rest of the speakers for another 20% in overall volume if you want. All it takes is money. Sorry, don't be disappointed. At least those weren't stolen with the CD Changer too.

I can add an amp and a sub with the factory deck?
I'm not looking for big bass.. I have a bmw with 2 12" DUB subwoofers and 1600 watts pumping..

I want the factory set up this time..
The jag is too classy to do all that crap to..

Speaking from experience with the "Premium Sound System", it sucks. As with most cars, the factory setup is crap and you need to replace all your speakers to get quality sound.

I have MB Quart components throughout the car and they sound amazing (thanks Aquill1 again) The blue paper Alpine speakers that come with the car, along with the virtually silent tweeters in the doors, are crap.

SpartanX, how tough was it to change out the speakers? And did you change the subs as well or just the door speakers? I think it is a pain to have to remove the door panels to get to the speakers themselves. Am I correct in assuming that all you do is pop off the panels and replace the stock speakers with a like size aftermarket? Please detail the speaker changes you made please. Thanks

It was a pain in the ***. Partly because I had to install the crossovers also, which I had to screw to the plastic panels. The tweeters were fairly easy to remove.

The speakers however, lol... I had to break them. It's kinda hard to describe, but I took a sledgehammer to the Alpine speakers and broke them from the mount that I needed to install the MB Quart speakers.

You want a factory look is what it sounds like. If you have the money you can go to a professional install shop and they can change the speakers and add a sub and amp into your car and hook it all up to the factory deck and keep a factory look to the car. I would go that route as factory systems are never anything to brag about.

Yea you're right...
I better wait a little bit tho...
like a month or so to save up a little more..
Not sure where to take it though...
audio express isn't my favorite place... lol..

Insurance for a 19 year old with one accident on record is pretty steep..
especially when you load on the comprehensive and collision!
Nothing will keep me from my baby =]]
lol..

I am 22 with a clean record and full coverage on my Jag is $135/month.

As far as where to take it. I hear Tweeter does good work. They can usually do custom work as well although you may pay a bit more for it. It really depends on your budget but i looked into it for an older car i had and it was going to be something like $2000 for everything installed, but i was using a $550 set of component speakers front and rear and the amp was like $700 and installation was nearly free since i would have bought it all there. It was just a quote that i got from them i never went ahead and had it installed cause i didn't have the money at the time and the car wasn't worth it.

I just checked their website and they don't have any stores in California. They are primarily East Coast. I would just look for a good high end car audio shop. You will probably pay more for it but it is worth it if you are going to keep the car.

Yes the basic stock system sucks.Heres the install of my Premium Upgrade but wanted even better sound than the Alpine Premium setup so went with Focal speakers and custom made tweeters and they really do sound awesome especially with Metallica and Iron Maiden kicking assat level 35:-
