RE: How do you tell a "sport" from a regular X-Type?
there are several elements of a sport pack.
some of the goodies are not a guarantee of sport pack because owners can upgrade on their own.
it is rare that anyone would change seats, so if the car has the bigger side bolstered seats.. it is likely a sport.
The wood dash is a greyer, greener colour on the sport. ( not always the case from some pics I see)
no chrome is the biggest clue from the outside, but some people dechrome on their own.
trunk spoiler, easily added
suspension - easily changed
wheels.... not a guarantee of anything
5 speed is unrelated to the sport package. was a seperate option when new.
read here for more info about canadian models.

Afew more things...
In the 05 and later versions - the dash trim is carbon fiber. I think it was optional in 05 and standard in 06 and 07.
The standard sport wheels were 17" vs. 16" for the non-sport. There was an option for 18".
The suede seat inserts in the 05 and later models are referred to as "Alacantara" - whatever that is...

I have an 05 Sport ... wood trim as well. I would like the grey burled look though. Anybody know where you can get replacement pieces for those???

I have an 02 Sport, and I have a wood trimmed dash. I guess I'm the odd one in the group.

You might try www.britishautowood.com or a local, custom furniture maker. They should be able to do up a small veneer for you if they are willing to take on such a small job.
