Question How many 2005 xtype Vanden Plas out there? Mileage?

We just bought a 2005 xtype Vanden Plas Edition. Our British mechanic told us there aren't too many of these out there. We are wondering just how many there are. Also, our 97' Camry is up to 300,000 miles and going strong. Now I know that the Camry can't compare in beauty to the Jaguar, but is the Jag comparable in mileage abilitity? Any thoughts on this?

I just bought one two months ago. Forest green with 47K miles. I fixed the dash light dimmer knob, and the engine is leaking oil. I haven't gotten serious about the oil leak yet, so I am still telling myself it will be an easy fix. Ha.

Other than that, it's great. I was prepared to scoff at the automatic windshield wiper function, bit it works slick here in drizzly Seattle.

Almost a certainty that it's the oil pan gasket. And it's a $700-$800 all day job. You have to remove stuff including the transfer case to get to it. Sorry. I just had mine done.

Ours had a slow leak from the differential, the mechanic checked the oil to be sure there wasn't too much metal in it and added more oil to it. He will check it again at our next oil change and we may need to replace a seal there. Maybe the same for yours, as I've heard that the xtypes are known for differential problems.

I've got an '05 VDP as well, black on black, just hit the 60k mark a few days ago. The VDPs are pretty rare, so you can feel special that you have the fancier wood and seats with the nice contrasting piping lol.

I haven't had any major issues with the car and I've had it for almost a year now. I went through the regular suggested maintenance that most of us on here do, aside from that I had a wheel bearing replaced and bought new tires before winter.

PS: Going from a Camry to the X-Type is like night and day, the cars are polar opposites. I had an '11 Camry and I hated it, when I traded it in the dealer accurately described it as an "appliance you use to get from point A to point B". The X-Type is a real car, and a classy one at that!

Enjoy your new Jag!
