What is MAX level on my dipstick?

It seems like this should be simple, but comparing the photo in the owners manual with the actual dipstick is causing confusion.

In the owners manual there are two red triangles pointing at the top and bottom of the crosshatched area. Also, just underneath MAX there is a circle/hole with a line through it. The image seems to indicate that the dipstick is flat with no bends.

On the actual dipstick, there are two rounded bends above and below the crosshatched area. The word MAX is far away from the upper circle/hole.

What part of my dipstick indicates the MAX level?
* The top of the crosshatched area?
* The top circle/hole?
* The top rounded bend?
* The word MAX?

 

6.1qts is the recommended max amount.

Drain your oil, pour in 6qts, check it and see where you're at. I use all of 6qts every time.

That being said, I consistently remain about 7/8ths the way up the hatch marks.

 

Max is the very bottom edge of the upper dimple, and is the factory manual's 6.9 qts with filter. Min is the very top edge of the bottom dimple, about 5.6 qts or so.

Anywhere in there is fine, although better to keep it in the cross-hatched area (6.1 is right at the top.)

Our cars have a pretty deep sump, so a lot of wiggle room. Just whatever you do, DON'T overfill. If the oil level reaches the bottom of the crankshaft, it gets whipped into a froth, and the air-filled froth will NOT lubricate the mains!
