Honestly I just did this job a few weeks ago and I removed the AC compressor. I also did the AC Compressor regulator valve recall while it was out just to be safe and the oil pressure switch.

I don't see another viable option.

can u say why it needs to be removed?
what about freon lines, does it need to be recharged or anything like that or just remove and replace.
did tou remove the alt from under the car or upwards through the hood?

No space as the slant on the motor makes it hard for the alternator to be removed through the top. The alternator comes out through the bottom. I removed the freon and then the AC compressor. The AC Lines just move forward towards the fans and the alternator drops down.

There is more tha enough free space once the AC compressor is loose...you don't need to drain it, just move it out of the way.

Well that's good to know now, I removed my refrigerant and compressor for no reason.

Thanks wa3ra, next time I know.

Actually, since you did the recall on the compressor, too, you neede to go that far anyway. It is a tight fit, but it does slide out between the compressor and the front cover.

If you want to see a REAL fiaso, on the Ford Contour, they put the alternator on the firewall side of the engine...you have to drop the exhaust to get at it!
