Default Huge performance mods and engine attention...

Purely for the sake of performance, I've put on the performance hot air intake, fitted the 2002/2003 engine cover and painted it, the battery cover and the fuse panel cover gloss black. After hours of painting, wetsanding and polishing, here is the result:

It doesn't seem any faster or slower, but it sure growls at about 4500-6500rpm. Great cosmetic... err... performance mod for those interested.

UPDATE: I've just installed a 10" Spectre Filter in the "white" color. It is actually dove grey like the dumb OEM engine compartment paint. This fills the space way better and with more filter area the performance impact should be huge... ly unnoticeable.

jaguarxp used to. chris still has some, too. mine isn't mina.

look on ebay. I have a longer cone coming to fill the space more ...and increase air flow for maximum horsepower.

I've spent about 10 hours all-up.

sand, clean, adhesion promoter, black base, fill with clear, wait a day and drive with parts on car (solvents bake out/shrink), sand again, black base, fill with clear, wait 2-3 hours, wetsand and polish.

both links are the same kit. It is a 3A Racing 3 inch universal intake kit (with MAF mount) from what I can tell. If you can find the source they are buying from, you can probably save more money.

I don't buy that theory much. The "restrictive" waffling in the top of the airbox lid is about 5-8mm deep and the waffling grids are 25-30mm large. I would bet large sums of money that shaving the waffling down won't net you more than standard run-to-run deviation on a dyno.

Hey Exepat, Has your car thrown any codes since the intake install?

I bought mine from JaguarXp, (now Mina as you know) had it installed, My mechanic then hooked up the air temp reading from the computer in the car, while we were driving and the car was getting extreme hot air. The next day the car was throwing codes, and the MAF started to tick.

Thats when I said no thanks to sucking in hot air, and I went back to stock setup, the car acted fine since then.

Is there a trick? I truly miss that roar from the hood and want it back on the car soon.

I started to question the mechanic, but I once'd it over, and it looked exactly as the instructions said it should be.

This is the one I got,

No codes for me. I live in the Seattle area though, so it isn't hot at the moment (50-60 degree highs). I'll report back once/if it warms up. I seriously doubt it will throw codes though and I can make a heat shield if that does happen.

Okay this might be a stupid question, but does a cold air intake make the car sound better when you accelerate? I heard my friends talking about it once but I never bothered to ask them about it.

yes, but the effect seems better on 4 cylinder cars. you really hear it after 4500rpm - its a bassy loud tone you get.
