Default Inconsistent power

My X type is giving me the run around, the power come and goes with no warning, seems worse at low revs, occasionally the engine management light will come on, but usually when it is performing properly! Vacuum variable vane turbo seems to move smoothly, have tried with EGR blocked (no different), have clean air and fuel filter. I have read a few threads and will try a new MAP sensor (if I can get it out!). Any other suggestions welcome.

UPDATE!
Changed the MAP sensor at the weekend(wished I had smaller hands) Now have loads of power for a short time! If driven modestly everything is fine. When pushed hard all is ok for a short while then the glow plug light flashes and we go into limp mode or the management light comes on and we cut out completely!
Any suggestions?
