I just purchased an 04 Jaguar X-Type - black exterior and interior. The previous owner did not use any products on the interior -- just wiped it down with a damp microfiber cloth. I am wondering if I should condition the leather. If so, what product would you recommend? I have used Lexol in the past with other cars.

I've had good results with Meguiers leather cleaner/conditioner with both of our jags which were starting to harden when we got them. I've come to the realizaion from looking at lux cars that the average owner doesn't like maintaining them if it involves some sweat. Wheels seem to be filthy beyond belief compared to your same vintage chevy and the leather needs to love. I just brought it back by using nearly a bottle the first time and letting it soak in then wiping of, then doing a light re-coat. After that, every week or two until you get it nice and soft again.

The X type has some cheap leather compared to the more upscale jags which shouldn't be a real shock to ya but it is definately better than most US auto leather and light years beyond the Japanese stuff. Lexol would work nicely too though it is a little more expensive and isn't stocked locally except their low line products.

Congrats on the purchase. Read up on the transfer case and changing its fluid!

 

Armor all makes some great leather cleaning products. I used the conditioner wipes everytime on my ivory interior and it comes out great.

 

I too own a black on black jag... At first I just used a damp microfiber towel than I moved on to armor all. Couldn't say that I liked the armor all just because of all the greasy residue you can see on all parts of the black interior. I've notices using those armor all whipes on the interior dash n trims really cling onto dust n dirt n it really shows on black interior. Recently I visited my local walmart n purchased lexol leather cleaner and conditioner, my brother use to use it on his Lexus gs300. And I really like the lexol a lot better. It really cleans the crap out of those seats n doesn't leave that cheap oily look. It takes a bit time to work it on there n do the proper steps but well worth it of you take time into detailing your jag. I take q-tips between my air vents, that's how much time I take on mine lol.

 

I have used both the meguiars and armor all products and I find that the meguiars makes the leather a lot shinier. I don't like that because it makes the leather look cheap and worn so I switched back to armor all which makes the leather look rich. Either way they are both good products so its up to personal preferance.
