Default Intermittent battery light

First of all I would like to say Hello!!! to everyone here. I have a 2002 X-Type 3.0 and I was driving to work the other day and the battery light came on. I have replaced the alternator once already in December due to an overcharging problem. I tested the alternator once again and it showed it was the voltage regulator. So I replaced it again. Now since it has been replaced, withing 10 minutes of replacing the light came on again. It shows to be charging, good voltage, I read on here about the positive battery cable being hot. I checked mine and it was, very hot. First of all do we need to replace the entire cable or can we just replace the terminal? And will this give you the intermittent battery light? It comes on, but when you shut the car off it will go out when restarted, but then comes back on after a few minutes. Thank you in advance for all of your help and advice. Seriously Confused.

I'd start with a new cable end/terminal and see if that fixes it.

Corrosion on wiring equals resistance and that casuses heat so as long as you can cut it back to good clean wire and still have enough cable to fit the terminal on it you should be ok.

Welcome and good luck!

Let us know how you get on.

Default Thank you

I will definitely try this. I am hoping this will fix it. I am researching as much as I can on my car as I do not have an owners manual nor do I have a Chiltons manual. So any help you all can give me is much appreciated. Thank you again, very much.

If you are looking for all the repair info you could ever want to know about your X-Type, following this sticky is a lifesaver. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to install it right and get it working but what it provides is priceless.

Thank you Itmax. You are very helpful. We will get this done today. Then when we get the chance to get them the struts are next. Just want to be sure I do everything right, as I want to keep this car as original as possible. They are truly a piece of art. So I am learning all I can about them so that in the job I do I can also help others in need. Thank you very much for all your help.
