You can in theory remove the back seat and then cut the sheet metal there to access the fuel pump. But, unless you know where this is, you can cause more bad than good.

Odds are you are looking at dropping the fuel tank which will also mean pulling the rear drive shaft and the exhaust system. There are lots of posts on doing this very thing.

Default Fuel gauge

My fuel pump problem is because of Gauge I just notice that even I put full of gas, gauge shows me it's at middle and on milage show all data according the gauge. On Jaguar x-type 3.0 there is 2 gauges on both sites of tank or no ? Which I need to check first ?

Andrew, do you know how to put the instrument cluster into the "diagnostic mode"? This will tell you if it is the left or right side level sensor that is your issue. If you don't, let me know and I will tell you how to do it and then what to look for. It is much easier than you think to do and it doesn't require any special tools.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was the passenger side that was bad. If you need a sender for your car let me know. I have 2 of them ot and ready to ship. Pm me and we will go from there.

Good Luck,
The Dr!

Andrew, what I want you to try is to go out to your car and sit in the driver's seat. Look at the end of the turn signal stalk and find the TRIP button. Depress that button and keep it depressed as you start the car. As you are placing the key in the START position, be watching the message center (where you normally see your mileage and ODO). Let the motor start and after about 3 seconds, you should get a message that says something to the effect of "TEST" or "ENGINEERING TEST". As you see this message, release the TRIP button. Your instrument cluster is now in test mode. You will now press the trip button quite a few number of times till you see your message center say "FP1 XXX" where XXX is a number between 000 and 255. If you have a nearly full gas tank, this number should be up near 255, but not reading 255. If it is reading near 000 (with a fairly full tank) or it is reading 255, then your sender #1 is bad. Press the TRIP button again and the message center should say "FP2 XXX". Use the numbers above and see if that sender is bad. If both are reading correct (about the same number), then your problem lies in the instrument cluster or the ECU.

To get out of the test mode, press the TRIP button for 3 seconds straight or turn off the car.

If I remember right, sensor 1 is the right side of the car, sensor 2 is the left side of the car.
