Jaguar X-type R!!!
So I had this idea...
Im thinking about supercharging my x-type..
lol..
what do you guys think?
Any reasons why I shouldnt?
If I dont spin my tires all the time should the transfer case be fine?
My friends dad does superchargers and I should be able to get it done at just under 2 grand...

I hope you have a couple of spare transfer cases in your garage. You'll need 'em.
I think it'd be a great project
I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't try, but I can think of quite a few reasons why it may be an endless money pit.
But what the hell! If you supercharge this car successfully for $2k or less, I'll be in for one too. I'll buy a spare transfer case for when I blow it up

like SpartanX says, you better have plenty of spare transfer cases, and probably a tranny or two as well. The X transfer casecan barely take the hp of the 3.0, much less another 50hp. The word is that the transfer case/awd system is the reason Jaguar didn't do an X type R in the first place.
Also seems like there isn't much space under the hood.

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
For any forced induction, you need to drop the compression ratio if you want a system to work.
THe X has fairly high compression and wont take forced induction very well.
haha, I cant even imagine the number of check engine lights!
How do you get the vacuum booster for the brakes to work?

uh oh.
lol..
well me and his dad have a little consultation session on wednesday to figure out how its going to go exactly.
My transmission is a stick shift so that isnt my problem... If I had an auto I would never even touch my car.. lol
And I was thinking more like a 100 hp supercharger...
Not sure how its going to work tho...
The guy specializes in the 3.8 liter superchargers for grand-ams and other american cars like vettes and stuff...

looks like they had a prototype but it wasnt profitable to put them into production..

The manual tranny can handle the power just fine. However, once the power gets there, then transfers it to the transfer case, then you're gonna have a problem.
The idea of supercharging the X is the same for me putting 2000w into a 1000w subwoofer. Sure you can do it for a little while, but it's only a matter of time before it blows up.
If money is no object, by all means my fellow Jaguarian

Ok, speaking from experience here....the simple answer is no..no you can't supercharge your X.
Several reasons, 1. You have high compression, supercharges work well with lower compression engines.
2. Nobody makes any software to tweak your ECM, so you won't be able to set the timing, fuel, spark etc required for superchargers/turbos....
3. Nobody makes the custom brackets hoses etc, and fitments will be tight....
Your best bet is to take what you have, and blueprint it. Port/polish your intake, throttle body and injector block. Also, port/polish your heads and redo the exhaust system. The cats are right next to the block and you have two very constrictive 90/45 bends. Get rid of all that piping, turn it into a true dual exhaust with a free flowing cats etc...
I spend over 3k doing all that to my X type. Squeezed almost 100+ extra ponies out of it. Plus you have the bottle which you can squeeze out another 75 safely. She'll blow most cars off the line....once you hit 90+ forget, she bottoms out and you'll lose most long races over 1 mile. Stop light to stop light you pretty much can take most cats......
I had fun with my baby....

Rose, What are you smokin?, and I want some.
Seriously, Like Racer eluded to and others..the X engine 2.5 or the 3.0 is in no way set up for Supercharging...everything about the compression, ECM, Cams and drivetrain, can't cope...You'd be headacheless and Better off if you fix it up like Racer suggests...at least you can still run stock everything else..

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
well.. i was talking to the engine shop and they said porting and polishing the heads would only give a 7-10% increase and cost upwards of 3000 dollars. supercharging seemed cheaper since I have a nice discounted way out.. but I guess not..
I forgot about the ecm and compression issues..
I am still to put an x-pipe in and get rid of that stupid y-pipe that goes over the rear suspension.. right now I have magnaflows and porsche tips to make it look nice. Is the x-pipe the true duals you talked about racer?
Still want the car to be smog legal... CA emissions are a pain in the ***..

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
If you use the x pipe, yeah, it will make it a true dual, but like i said, your biggest problem is the cats, they are so damn close to the engine and if you want to really improve your bottom end performance, you need to replace them with free flowing/performance cats and get rid of those bends. Just installing the x pipe will only give you a better tone, zero performance.
Good luck!
Good luck!

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
There are some that are, but even if you get regular performance cats with a new exhaust, it'll make an improvement. I'm not talking about putting them back in their original position...you'll need to rework your entire exhaust sys. A good performance muffler shop will be able to do it all for you around 1-2K

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
I know that one guy had installed an exhaust manifold from a 3.0 duratec out of a Ford Taurus (gasp!) in order to then install a more free-flowing exhaust set-up. Might be worth a shot since a 3.0 manifold out of a junkyard would probably be about $50 and easy to find.

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
One guy on the UK forum worked for Jag and test drove their X Type supercharged development cars. This is from that site
Jaguar did start developing a supercharged 3l X (I drove a few of them) but:
There was not enough physical space in the enginer compartment leading to some serious problems such as intercoolers very low down at the front that got destroyed every thime you went near a curb.
The drivetrain issues were fixable
TWR got into financial trouble
Jag realised there would be no money in it
It would have cost a lot of money at a time when there were much better prospects that could be invested in including:
A Jag 4x4 (killed off as it would compete with Land Rover)
A convertable form of the X-Type[/b] as a 2 seat sports car
The 'milk float' electric car
The F Type[/b] sports car
And then there was the fact that Ford ran out of money and Jag was losing money.

RE: Jaguar X-type R!!!
yea.. I read something like that too..
I gave up on the supercharger already though...
as for the exhaust..
heres a sound/video clip of it..

dont have the full x-pipe setup yet though..
I'm going to see about changing the position of the cats as well...
probably next week sometime..
