Default Jaguar X-type Seat Skins

I'm new to this forum. I recently bought my wife a 2002 Jaguar x-type for a really good deal. The car is perfect mechanically and cosmetically except for the front driver side seat (upper & lower). The leather on the side of the seat has worn through. I have been looking into upholstery repairs, but the cost is outrageous. Most used replacement driver seats out there are all just as bad. I came across someone who is selling just the leather "skins" off of existing used seats, but the passenger skin is in much better condition than the driver side skin.. This is my question - Are the specification/dimensions for the passenger front seat the same as the driver seat? If so can I fit the skin from the passenger seat onto the driver seat? Has anyone taken the skin off of their seats? If so, how hard is it and how do you do it?

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic., vwmusky1963

I have repaired many leather seats (not Jags). Most likely upper covers are the same, if they don't have airbags, lower ones are different. After probably 10-20 seat repairs it didn't get much easier, it takes long time to remove leather and then install it. It takes my wife about 3 hours just to replace one leather piece. It takes about 8 hours to repair one seat. Remove seat/remove covers/replace damaged pieces/install everything.
Covers are attached by 20-30 wire rings, which are PITA to remove/install. Don't mess up electrical wires, mark location.
Just buy nice seat covers.

I have a similar problem with the passenger seat (left) in my car. From what I can tell the part numbers for the left and right seat cushions are different (however I don't know if the actual dimensions of the cover are different):

c2s20601lhj is the left seat cover (LHJ is the colour code for Dove grey - the interior colour of my car)
c2s20600lhj is the right seat cover.

As original parts these things are way expensive, however I have seen a new one on ebay for circa $150.

Hope this helps,

Regards

Rob
