2002 Jaguar X Type 3.0
I have two questions that if I get an answer will put my mind at ease. We bought this car and it was two days before I had to put a new transmission in it ($4300). So i'm a little fearful of the car. These are the questions.
1. why is it that when I accelorate if feels like it's shifting gears twice before it reaches 35mph (where I reach another shift). I'm new with Jag and all l my other cars would have it's first shift of gears at about 35. What are the other little shifts that I feel. This happened even before I changed out the tranny.
2. Someone told me that if I disconnect or reconect the car battery the wrong way that it will lock up the car making it inopperable. Sounds pretty stupid but I had to get an answer from people who actually deal with these cars.

Jagm1979, First off, are you used to a tranny with 5 gears. A tranny with a lot of gears will tend to shift more often as it is attempting to keep the motor more in the power band. I know my car shifts twice before I hit 35 if I am accelerating normally. Also keep in mind that you will feel the tranny "shift" 5 times. 4 of them are the tranny going from one gear to another. The 5th shift is the torque converter locking up. So, depending on how hard you are on the gas, it is possible to have the car shift into second and then lock the torque converter too (giving you your "2" shifts).
