KEY BROKE OFF FOB

Please help. 2002 x-type my key broke off the key fob, can J/B weld hold it on to start the car and get it to the Jag. dealer? I was able to start it this morning w/pliers, but now my 'security failed' light came on when I tried to start it again.

JB weld wont hold. You need to get a new one.

I've had this problem before. It wont start with pliers. Get a new key from the dealer. It'll cost you $45 or so. Buy a fob off ebay for $20 and you're back in business.

The J/B Weld WORKED

, but I'm sure NOT for long. The Jaguar Dealer wants $470 for a new key and fob, or $130 just a key...RIDICULOUS!!!

$50 here...... I am I the ONLY one that see the ads displayed all around the
forum pages? This ad comes up anytime someone posts about a key or a
key fob. You will still need to get the key cut by the dealer.

WHERE DID YOU GET 138? THEYRE ABOUT 62 FOR A KEY, THE REMOTES ARE EXPENSIVE AT 300 WHICH IS WHY I HAVE A BOX FULL. BUT YOU HAVE TO HAVE 2 KEYS TO PROGRAM SO KEEP THAT IN MIND. MOST KEYS BREAK CAUSE THEYRE WORN AND GET HARD TO TURN...FOLLOWED BY THE OL' IM A MAN, ILL GET THIS DAMN THING TO TURN....OOPPS. YOU MAY JUST WANT TO ORDER A NEW IGNITION BARREL TOO AND WAIT TILL IT COMES IN AND DO IT ALL AT ONCE. i JUST DID 2 TONIGHT

No, youre not the only one. I often wonder why there are so many questions about that when the ad
is right there. Theyre so cheap Ive thought about ordering a couple just the have on hand.

You need 2 keys to program, but you don't need two fobs. So if you just pick up a fob, you can program it to the car without having a second one.

Well-ended up the J/B Weld only lasted for 1/2 day!!! but I was able to make it to the dealership. The sales lady said I had to get 2 keys cut to program the new key. I Literally cursed her OUT and said "you quoted me $130 ($70 for key & $60/reprogramming)!!! that's all I have is $130. My key works fine and you can program the new key with my old one." one of the mechanic's overheard our conversation and told me not to worry, he'll cut the key program the key and only charge me the $130 original quoted. All said and done, I'm back in business.

jagxv6 - I seen your post, however I didn't have time to wait until the new fob or key shipped to me. I couldn't start my car and needed a key like yesterday. I have 3 children and needed transportation. I would have paid bout $45 for the key/fob and shipping and still would have had to go to the dealer to have it cut and programmed. That would have ran well over the $130 I paid and the mechanic was able to give me a new key/fob complete set that runs well over $400.
