Question key fob range just 30 ft?

Hi guys,
What is the key fab range for Jag x type? I spoke with the dealership and they told me that is just 30 ft? This is true?
I feel that this is a very short distance. I expect something around of 100 ft.
I couldn't find this info in the owner manual book.

Thank you,
M

The key fobs for my X work at almost 100 feet while the key fobs for my S only work out to about 20 feet. The local dealer tells me every individual car is different. Why that should be I don't know.

yes i noticed the range on the key fob to be dissapointingly short for my S-type but there is a simple way to extend the range. i saw this on top gear and surprisingly it does work.

when you get outside the range at which your S-type fob can reach normally then hold the keyfob against your head and press the unlock or lock button. you will find this method will double and sometimes triple the range of your keyfob.

it doubled the range on my X-type to at least 200 ft.

once i was out of range of the s-type i found it would still reach when i used this method - i guess the human skull makes a great antenna.

I hear ya on that dude. My old key fob works better than my NEW one. WTF is that all about? But with mine, i would love to get 30ft out of it. I literally have to walk up to the car and hold it against the freakin windshield!!

Just hold the key fob under your chin its not so noticable, works with my satelite remote in the garage too since the receiver box is upstairs in the house.
there are also how to's on the web about soldering a wire onto the antenna leads in remotes and then coil the wire up inside to extend range too..
OR BUY AND INSTALL A CLIFFORD REMOTE START, THE REMOTE WORKS UP TO A MILE

Hmm, remember the cell phone stories?? I can hear it now:

Breaking news! Key fobs next to heads linked to brain tumors!

Let's hope the news media never reads this forum.

The New York Times asked a Silicon Valley radio engineer, Tim Pozar, for his take on how the trick turns your head into a DIY antenna.
Mr. Pozar explains, “You are capacitively coupling the fob to your head. With all the fluids in your head it ends up being a nice conductor. Not a great one, but it works.” Using your head can extend the key’s wireless range by a few car lengths.

i guess the news media already know lol!
