Default Kickdown Operation

"Kickdown is operated when the accelerator pedal is pressed fully down, beyond the normal operating spring pressure, to provide maximum engine performance." - Owner's Manual

Is Kickdown operation for when you're running in Automatic mode only? Or does kickdown somehow work while you're shifting manually with the J-shifter? I drive a 3.0 Sport with automatic transmission.

And by 'pressed fully down', do they mean 'flooring it'? How long do you keep the pedal to the floor to reap the benefits of kickdown efficiently? How long is too long?

Any interesting videos available online anywhere where we can see X-Type's racing or using KD (I've already seen everything on YouTube)?

What are your experiences and observations with kickdown?

Hey Happilute.........my kickdown involves burying the pedal into the carpet, but then again, I have a manual.
I'm sure one of the guys with auto, fully up on the use of kickdown use will be along shortly to answer your question.

when you are at cruising speed, say 55-60+ and you want to pass another vehicle, you simply press the gas pedal to the floor if you like, or once you get the fell as to where that sweet spot is you won't have to mash it.... this causes the auto trans to down shift one gear or you can shift the J gate over one gear...

If you press the pedal all the way at any speed, you're simple kicking the auto trans down one gear (depending on speed, sometimes it goes down two gears) ....or, you can use your j gate to shift manually at the appropriate red line of 7K RPM's...for when you want to feel the need for that sportiness (I sometimes shift manually at the red line when racing)

How long can you hold the pedal to the floor? All depends on what you're trying to do i suppose...

You should feel it "kicking down" about part throttle at cruising speed....press it to the floor or partially...your call

Is this like your first time driving?

No video's, maybe you should try JR's school of driving for beginners....856-555-5555 tell him i sent ya :-)

I've never been able to hold it on the floor for more than a few seconds - running well over a 100 by then.

LOL, just a note don't floor the gas pedal all the time otherwise you might damage the tranny in long run .Anyway, you wouldn't need that much

lol,
So really how long you been driving? Or you a convert from manual? Or, just a white hair ol fart who putt'ez round town doing 25 mph in a 50mph zone?

Once you "floor"the jag, she'll get up there fast and you'll find yourself running out of road faster...

(you thought that was funny, wait till you read my response on your other post) :-)

Boy, Race has a PR guy now! LOL! And it's Jimbo! Jim, I hope you're making money for this too, because mod money isn't enough to have Race be in good standing with the newbies! BTW, I like flooring it just to hear my exhaust note...and I'm stock!
