Been driving my 03 for a year and half now and the leaper is still there. As far as I know it's the original and the car spent it's first 4 years in Chicago.

Island, if somebody is going to take the leaper, they are going to get it. You can't stop that. But, most of the members still have their original leaper on the hood. Sure, a few of them have had it taken. But, there are those out there in the world that will take whatever they want. That is the price that we have to pay for driving what we do. But the same can be said for the Caddy hood emblems and other things of the like.

My Jag without my Leaper would be sacrilege. If someone were to steal it, Id just have to replace it. Ive said before that I may get an extraone to have on hand just in case. Leapers come standard on most Jags here in the states, so theyre rather common. The fact that theyre rare across the water may have something to do with the higher incidence of them being ripped off (sometimes literally).

Queenie..I heard that the UK has weird laws, and they are worried that pedestrians would be impaled on them...so I've heard..

Thanks for the advice. I decided to listen to you guys rather than my my pessimistic hubby, and if it get's stolen I will just have to replace it. I have just bought one on ebay! I waited for 2 days to put my bid in at the last minute. It was quite exciting doing my first last minute bid and winning:-)

I believe they stopped fitting the Leaping Jaguar as standard because of the "impalement" issue!

Good job IslandGirl !! Congrats on winning the bid! Nice X Type too. Youll love her (or him if youre so inclined).

LOL! I would think that if hit by a car, the last thing a pedestrian should be worried about would be a hood ornament.

It probably depends where you park the car over night or when at work. If you think its safe that it is worth the chance.

A little late if you've already bought one, but Arden do a removable leaper that might be of interest. It's a little expensive mind and I can't quite bring myself to part with over £250 for one!! Legal in the UK too.

I think the leaper makes the Jaguar, personally. My wife fell in love with the leaper when I bought our '07 X-Type. In fact, she loved it so much that I bought her a leaper to keep her company at work on her desk.

I noticed that it requires two holes on the hood. Should I get a new X-Type (as speculated for 2012), it probably won't have the leaper. However, I probably won't have it installed since that would require two holes to be drilled.
