Unhappy Locking issue partially solved..

Hi there,

I bought my x-type a week or so ago, and was told the remote was dodgy despite the battery being replaced. I read everything here, dismantled the remote put the battery back in the right way round.. disabled the one broken switch in it which was for locking, and found it worked.. intermittently.. looked at the ignition lock and found the shutter wasn't coming back up.. oiled that and hey presto the remote unlocks all, just the boot or does the headlights no problem.. just use the key to lock the car - not a problem and saving £35 on a replacement remote :-) Thankyou all for the shutter info.. however I have discovered one time in maybe 10, after driving the cvar and stopping my door will not release the central locking, but the passenger doors do.. is this a switch on the way out I can get to easily and clean or is it something more?
Many thanks

can you extrapolate on what "not releasing central locking" means? I'd like to help you if you can let me know what that means to you.

If you pull on the handle inside the door after stopping the car nothing happens no unlock noise and door cannot be opened, but if for example my wife then pulls her door handle you hear the doors all unlock and they can be opened. Many thanks

There's a simple pull cable between the internal handle and the door lock. It can break/disconnect/slacken and give the symptoms you report. Remove the door card and look. It's self evident how to refit it if it the cause.

Follow armstrongs advice for sure, but I had a really unique problem like yours where it was actually the connector that had gotten too big on the female end and wouldn't make a connection. Just advice

Thankyou for that - it is for me an odd one as it only happens occasionally (usually with the family in the car to see it :-)) I pull the handle as normal inside the door, it moves as usual just nothing happens you get to the maximum movement and nothing.. where was the connector? Many many thanks
