Recently i bought a car from"warwick Specialist Cars" the deal included £30.00 worth of petrol - chargeable to me of which i agreed as it was said by the salesman that it saved hunting for a garage with a new car so i thought good idea - agreed and paid up...i collected the car a few days later and noticed that on collection the fuel gauge was reading a fraction above the empty mark i complained but was told that £30..00 of fuel would not register much on a jag and drove home a distance of 16 miles at which time the empty light came on so i challenged the salesman about this, asking for a receipt, and proof of the fuel being put in the car etc, together with the garage who supplied the fuel / time and date, and also asking him how the car could have burned or leaked this ammount of fuel over such a short distance when there wasn't any leaks, i have since had the car checked with an independent garage and no - not leaking fuel, on the same day i purchaced a further £30.00 of fuel and the meter registered half full from the empty mark - so where did it go, the dealer cocerned assures me he can produce the receipt for my fuel but 9 weeks on and six requests to them and i am still waiting to see it, now isnt that strange !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's not strange.... the dealer lied to you. he did not give you any fuel. go back and get your money back... don't takr this the wrong way, are you a girl or a guy?

why don't you just go up there and demand your 30 back. If I got taken like that I would go to the dealer. First, I would go there and calmly ask for my money back for the fuel. If they said no then I would get a little stern. Mayne change the tone of my voice and ask again. If they still said no I would say "give me my money back." every time they tired to say anything i would interrupt them and say "give me my money back." I would raise my voice each time I had to say "give me my money back" until I was at full volume yelling! maybe towards the end toss in a "give me my fu**ing mony back!!!" they will listen.

 

Walk right into their showroom at their busiest time and start complaining to everyone about the lies.

 

Walk into their place tomorrow while there are a lot of people looking to buy cars are present. Then, first, calmly ask for your money back. If they give you the run around, start raising your voice and yelling about how you have been very patient, asked numerous times for a receipt for the supposed gas that they obviously didn't put in, the repeated lies that they have been telling you, etc, etc, etc and then see what service you get. I'm sure with other people watching you, that will get the managements attention. if the management doesn't give you your money back, you can stop by a few people and tell them not to buy a car here, but to go up the road. I'm sure that will **** off the place where you bought the car from, but, what are they going to do, kick you out of hte store? You were leaving anyways and you already have the car.

Isnt 30 sterling like 3 gallons of gas? How much fuel is that in volume, not cost ferret?

 

Not to pee in anyone's Post Toasties..But it may now be too late to get them to cough up the 30 big ones...The day you picked it up and noticed the car was still empty you should have turned around and drove it right back to them to show them the empty tank..

Ferret, they lied to you and thats the crux of it.
£ 30 is £ 30 and better in your pocket that theris thats for sure, especially as you're a pensioner.
Go back in mate and ask them for it back, as stated preferably when busy. Ask calmy at first, even ask to see the sales / service manager and explain your scenario.....but don't leave till you get it sorted!

how about this: if it's REALLY this big a deal to ya, why don't you write a nice, professional sounding letter to the manager. Tell him about your entire experience. The good and the bad. Tell him about the gas money. And tell him how you can be reached. and then for hells' sake: LET IT GO!!!

besides, if MOHRD is correct, then as a Jaguar-owner, you are 'Above' such a display of 'Cheapness'....

Being a pensioner (retiree for you Americans, lol), he may be on a budget, so the 40 bucks may actually be a big deal. Besides, its the principle of the thing.They lied, they should be held accountable. We refer to them as ***********s for a reason, but that doesnt mean they should get a free pass. Make it harder for them to cheat people.

Well thanks for all the replies lads although the sarchastic ones are not to impressive, its not the 30 quid its the fact that you trust someone and then get sh*t on for your custom most of the above advice has been tried and failed trading standards are now sorting it out as they have have more clout that i will ever have but thanks again to all.....

secondly, Mr ferret, We've all been had at one time or another. Some of us take it lightly because we can look back and say....yeah, i know the feeling...but now what, lets laugh about it.

Your first mistake was NOT DOING ANYTHING THE DAY OF...said rip-off. Waiting 4 weeks to try and get your money back is really a moot point.

All some of us tried to do was toss in the "lighter Side" of your grief.
Non of us can get you your money back. But it's cool if you vent and share so that others can learn and know if they set foot in that dealer, we'll know to watch out.

Oh and as a general rule of thumb, anytime anybody said they did something, you always verify it. Example is...say somebody gave you the 30 or 40 quid in an envelope....would you just take it without counting it and toss it in your pocket??

I doubt it, so lesson learned huh?

 

Sure, the monetary value of the situation is trivial for most. Not arguing that point. But, today they are screwing people out of 30 quid, tomorrow they are going to try to get 40, next week 50. This will continue until someone steps up and says something. THat is how some businesses do business. Besides, it is also an honor thing. If you tell me that you are going to give me something that I paid for, I expect to get it.

Granted, I do see where due to the time passing is going to make things more difficult. Doesn't mean impossible, but difficult. That is why sometimes you need to make things difficult for them to get a response.

Hey, don't misunderstand me... I know who the bad guy is here. No question that there are crooks around who will take anyone (even a pensioner, or a single mother) for $3, $30 or $300... whatever they can get. I don't know if the dealership in question is like that, but it sounds like they probably are. The easiest, best way for this to have been resolved would have been for them to give Ferrett his $30.... or better yet: go fill his gas tank for him! Then he'd be on here telling us all how great those folks were to deal with. no question they handled it badly.

I'm just wondering how much 'power' you wanna give them to upset you? And I disagree that it's about 'honor' or 'respect'. It is about money. That's it. It's not personal. They didn;t seek you out and target you. So the only way this becomes about disrespecting you, is if you make it about that.

I'm just suggesting that life is too short to get that worked-up over all that. Let it go.
