Now that the cold weather is here I have a 2006 x type that blows cols air from heater.It will go from hot to cold.

 

Kirk, the first thing that I would tell you to do is to check your overflow tank and make sure that you have the proper level in the tank. We have seen in the past that the tank can develop a cracked nozzle and it will cause a loss of coolant and it will keep enough coolant in the engine to prevent it from overheating, but not enough to warm the passenger cabin. If the level is low, refill as needed and then look at the top of the overflow tank. Back near the firewall, you will see where a line comes in from the passenger side of the car. Look at this nozzle. You may see a very white line in the plastic that is much more pronounce than the rest of the tank. If this is the case, you are suffering from a broken expansion tank. The solution is to get a new expansion tank unless you are really good at self fixes and then you have to drill out the old nozzle, get a new brass fitting to go in there and then epoxy it up really good.

After that, do you notice any overheating/temp gauge going above 1/2 right after getting off of the highway and getting into a slow area? If so, it may be that your water pump is starting to go and it just so happens that due to the colder weather, it is preventing the car from overheating.
