Basic install is just unplugging the o2 sensor and gettin a wrench on the nut drive on the base of the sensor. Sometimes they are a biotch. Almost anytime you have metal on metal contact and heat things can get bloody. LOL. You may get lucky. Essentially its not hard at all....just how much Murphy's Law do you have in you. LOL. Me...i am gettin it tattoo'd on my forehead.

It's a good move to try the O2 sensors first. They kinda look like a spark plug screwed into your exhaust. I'd take a pic for you but no longer have an X type. Should be pics in JTIS.

I hope it's not the cats - this car's cats are very close to the manifolds, not really a universal fit, and they are really freaking expensive.

 

Thats what i was afraid of the universal fit part, the exhuast shop could have fitted a universal cat to see if it was causing the problem.

Okay where are they located, do they just run a long the exhuast pipes and whats the orientation, Are the on the side of the pipe, underneath or on top.

The 02 sensors them selves, are they universal?

 

OT sensors are not really universal, you can follow the pipe off the manifolds down, you'll see a wire connectinting to a spark plug looking thing that screws directly into the pipe, there will be one for each side.

Takes a 22MM socket or box end wrench to get them off, sometimes because of the heat they are a real puke to get off and you end up with raw knuckles from sliding off the sensor and whacking them. But my last car was a 2 minute job. Check with a Jag dealer and an Autozone type place, last time the auto shop wanted 190 bucks for the sensor for my old BMW, the dealer was 68.00 so you never know.

 

The cats are right off of the manifolds in the engine bay. If you know where your oil filter is, just look up and you'll see the one cat. That's one issue is they are not down on the bottom of the car after the downpipe like most other cars.

He's right, the best way to find them is just follow the pipes. You can't really mistake them for anything else, they are all that's screwed into the exhaust.

Time to pop the hood and get out the creeper Disco!

You can have it tested but as far as visual, i do not think you can. Think the basic rule on O2 sensors is, if all the basic tune up stuff doesnt fix it, they are bad. Symptoms are bad fuel economy and loss of power.
