We got 9-10" in Philly and most of the streets in my neighborhood still haven't been plowed yet. My wife's 02 X-Type just rips through everything, no problem. I had to use it for a parts run yesterday during rush hour and there were accidents with delays on the main roads. Nobody was taking the side streets out of fear of getting stuck. I got through those and around all the traffic without issue.

We had a storm a few years ago and my X had no trouble at all.

Back when I had my X-Type, I was the crazy that was out there drifting the car on the icy roads. It can hold itself sideways for quite awhile if you play with the gas. Granted, I had an 03 with the viscous coupled transfer case. But, like you found out, it was a monster in the snow. The only problem I ever had was when I hit a bunch of slush and it pushed the front end to the side which forced mem into the ditch. But, had I stayed in the gas (vice slamming on the brakes), I think I could have driven out of the ditch. But, because I stopped, I couldn't get enough traction to climb up the ditch bank because I had too much snow under the car and it was sitting on top of the snow. Granted, the XJ is just as much fun, but you have more power to play with. He he he he he he he he.

Dennis, once you get the XJ, you will not want to go back. If you can get the XJL, do that, especially if you want to impress some of your friends as they sit in the back. The extra 6 inches makes a world of a difference. If you need some more pointers, let me know via a PM.

Dennis, the last generation of XJ's only had air bags in the back, none in front. This made the system almost bullet proof. Very few issues with the system. As for being able to convert it, some people have asked that questions and to the best of my knowledge, there is no kit out there to do what you are saying. Now, I am sure (as the old saying goes), "if there is a will, there is a way". How much are you willing to spend? Also keep in mind that the current set up also has special shocks in it that control the amount of dampening. So, when you put the car into sport mode, the shocks stiffen up and let you really toss the car around. Yet, for normal driving, it will allow the shock to let the suspension move around. You do the spring conversion, you may lose that ability.
