Navigation disc.. I made a copy!
I finally was able to make a copy of a Nav disc.
The legitimate reason to do this is to preserve your original disc so that you can have one if ever one goes missing or gets scratched or broken.
To test my skills at buring DVDs I did end up using an 06 disc to copy and was able to get new maps of my city....
previously only the major roads were on my disc.. the one I practiced with have even my street on it. It is nice to have my little house icon on a street and not in the middle of nowhere.
I sure would like to have the newest 08 disc to "test" with .
It takes dual layer DVDs to do it and I went through 4 before I got one to work.
I am proud of my perserverence... ( as if you guys doubted me ) .... now I just need to use the knowledge for good instead of evil.

I still want to "practice" with the newest disc...
If I have any left overs I suppose I could sell them as unknown quality. hahaha..
I would need a donor disc from the 07 update... but the 07 owners tend not to be here lurking..

I had the dealer do a nav system update last year.
It did one good thing -- added clock on the screen
but did one bad thing-- it took away the 3d option that I liked to use sometimes.
Of note also is the sweet british voice no longer works with my copied mapDVD. Seems to be a glitch there. I get all the other languages.

I assume us XK peeps will have to go with the latest 2003 or 2004, right? Our nav systems are totally different than you guys, i presume, and cross-discing would be disastrous, or worse, i'd lose that british woman's voice that always calls a highway...a "motorway". I crack up every time she says that.

I think it is just a glitch from the disc I copied.
The disc I copied was from a Cadillac, and it uses the same NAVTEQ system.
I guess the Caddy drivers dont get the British sweet voice.
Again.. calling all 07-08 Jag owners with navigation..... let me know if you are willing to take a few minutes of your time to pass on the DVD ... I will show you how to do it on the computer

Hey thanks, I thought you were gone already... glad you are getting up early to help us out here.
Maybe I will go down to Florida next fall (my parents go for a month every year - typical Canadians) I owe you about a thousand beers...
