I am new to this forum but I hope someone can help me out. I have a 2003 X-Type 2.5 Sport. I was driving home the other day and all of a sudden, when I was stopped at a stop light, I noticed white smoke/steam coming from the front driver side of the hood. I was very close to home, so I decided to just get it home. There were no warning lights on and other than the smoke/steam when I stopped, the car acted normally. When I finally got home and stopped, I opened the hood and the smoke/steam kept coming out until the car cooled down. I then noticed that there was a reddish liquid dripping out form under the engine compartment. The car is out of warranty so I just wanted to get some advice before I take it in and get fleeced.
Chech the radiator hose going to the housing on the front lower side of the engine - just up from the oil filter. It may have come off. There was a TSB for your model year that required the dealer to add another clamp to this hose to keep it from blowing off. The dealer installed the extra clamp on the 03 I once owned, but, the idiot mechanic didn't bother to tighen it up. Hope that's all it is.

if you cant even identify the fluid.... then you are surely going to get fleeced!!
what is it?
coolant? - sweet smell
auto tranny fluid?
PS fluid?
gravity being what is is... take a look EXACTLY where the drips were falling and look UP.. you will see where it is coming from!
