Default Need help!!!!

Im new to this site but just like the rest of us here i am having problems with my 2004 xtype. Last week while i was driving down the road i started experiencing problems i received 2 messages on my computer that said engine systems failure, transmissions failure and then the car went into the so called limp home mode. I pulled the car off the road waited for a few moments and the car started up fine and i was on my way. Later in the afternoon on my way home from work no problems. The next 2 mornings it did the exact same thing and in the afternoon fine. One thing that i've noticed before reading other post is that it had rained i was wondering if possibly that would anyting to do with it? Could anyone tell me if that has something to do with it? I've heard all things form it having a leak in something called a tcm???? If so could u tell me where it is located so i could check it out for any possible leaks. Thanks so much!

The TCM is shown in the left footwell. Doubt you'd get it wet unless you have a leak into the car. You have to read the codes to know what is wrong. Don't know if the codes get stored even when they clear themselves. The main ECU is connected on the right firewall and it may be getting wet. Too little info to do other than guess.

Bandy, are you also getting a "Cruise Control Failure" warning too? If so, then you are most likely looking at a failed throttle control valve. When these go, they tend to give you goofey things like this. But, take the car to a local auto parts store and have them read the codes. I know for sure that the Pep Boys on Military Highway (just north of the JANAF shopping complex) will read the codes for you.

I used to live in Norfolk just outside of the naval base there off of I-564. Now I am north of you by 3 hours in the southern tip of Maryland. If you are looking for someone to work on the car and don't mind a drive...... I am always tinkering on the X's. Also of note, I am looking to get a group of us up to Richmond, VA for the Concours d'Elegance. It is a Jaguar only car show. That is going to happen Sept 18th.

Well no im not getting a cruise control message just engine systems failure and transmission failure! Thanks for telling me about Pep boys i will go and check them out and see if they can offer any insight to what may be going on. Thanks for the offer to come to Maryland but with the way the car is right now i doubt if i would even be able to make it that far. I will get the codes and post them later. By the way is the service for the code reading free. Just asking. Thanks again!

Bandy, they should read the codes for free. Almost any auto parts store is going to have a service to read the codes for free. If they are wanting to charge you, then tell them thanks but no thanks and move on to the next store. There is also an Advance Auto Parts near the corner of Tidewater and East Little Creek. I know they will read the codes too. All depends on which part of Norfolk you are in.
