Default new spare key programming

Bought new blank fob and had cut. programmed by the well known diy (4 times switch ignition on etc ) that I've used many times and got the chime. both remote and key operates doors etc key operates ignition but won't start car.

Am told I need to get Jag or specialist to programme.

Any advice??

Take it to a locksmith that has the software or take it to Jag Dealer who has the software. Key has to be programmed. Take all keys at the time of programing.

Hi, I think you will find it's the transponder chip that needs programming. I believe this is separate from the locking circuit board. I don't think they can be re-programmed to another vehicle only the original. A new chip will need to be bought and programmed.
Good luck

This old chestnut again. The transponder can be programmed and if you already have 2 working keys (that will start the car) on your car then you can program a new key yourself.
I actually bought a key off Ebay, replaced the blade to fit my car and programmed it myself using my 2 working keys.
If you only have the one then its an auto locksmith job or Jaguar, they have the gear to program your new key.
Also if you have access to a Mongoose system (Jag software) you can program it yourself.
Instructions
Insert the first already programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Insert the second already programmed key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Key programming mode is now activated and you have ten seconds to:
Insert the unprogrammed new key into the ignition and turn to position II
Turn back to 0 and remove the key
Allow 10 seconds to pass for the system to exit programming mode.

Did the method Faltwen has written on my 2009 facelift with a new ebay fob and transponder in new fob worked a treat. Really surprised it worked, thought it would need programmed, but I also had valet key thankfully.

Faltwen's technique does work but you don't need to have two working keys. I only had just the one and it still worked.
If you're replacing the blade then open the flip key half way and you might notice a circular indent where the blade starts. You need something small (and a bit of force) to push this rod out, that will allow you to take out the old blade and fit the new one. Then just reinsert the rod and reprogram
No need for any software.
